COMMUNITY-LED MONITORING

In the web of healthcare delivery, a critical gap often exists between community members and formal health facilities. Recognizing this disparity, we embarked on a transformative journey—one that would empower our community and amplify their voices.

Our approach was simple yet profound. By directly involving community members, we sought to gather unfiltered feedback from those who consumed healthcare services. Through community-led monitoring, we bridged the divide, ensuring that their perspectives shaped the very systems designed to serve them.

With support from our partners, we became active participants in two pilot programs. These initiatives aimed to provide deeper insights and enhance accountability during service delivery. Our community members became the eyes and ears of the system, sharing their experiences, challenges, and aspirations. The resulting report was more than just data it was a testament to collective empowerment. USAID recognized its significance and advised for one of these programs to be taken on for upcoming projects.

Setting the levels project

At the first stage of the process, diverse discussion groups are convened. Each group represented among the key populations, health workers and support staff in each facility. Each group meets separately for conversation, to allow room for uniqueness and diversity of experience. Conversations are guided through a Mixing Desk tool, organized around categories that, broadly, describe the Right to Health.

Throughout the years, a spirited debate has unfolded regarding the most effective feedback mechanism. While scorecards have their merits, many community members have emphasized the need for a better approach one that captures individual experiences and expressions.

Ma Box is an innovative online feedback form that goes beyond mere checkboxes. It collects rich data, delving into the intricacies of user experiences, and individual expressions that paint a vivid picture of their interactions with healthcare services. The collected data is meticulously analyzed and then shared with the facilities. This dynamic feedback loop allows both parties to learn, adapt, and improve. We believe that Ma Box isn’t just a form, it’s a conduit for empowerment. By amplifying user voices, we pave the way for a more responsive and accountable healthcare system
